Oggi sono stata dalla mia amica Deborah di transition italia per imparare a fare il sapone in casa. Usare sempre guanti, grembiule e occhialini per protegersi.
Today I went to my friend Deborah's house from Transition Network Italy to learn to make homemade soap. Please ready carefully all the instructions and be careful to pour the ingredients as explained and wear all the necessary protections.
Occorrente: Una bilancia elettronica, barattolo di plastica, un termometro da cucina, una pentola di acciaio inox (dedicata per fare il sapone), un contenitore in vetro Pirex, un cucchiaio in acciaio, un cucchiaio di legno, un fullatore a immersione, stampini (posso essere ricavati da barattoli da yogurt oppure gelati che poi verranno tagliati quando saranno pronti). Guanti, grembiule e occhiali protettivi!
Tools: an electric scale, a plastic pot, a cooking thermometer, a steel pan (to be used only for soap making), a pirex container, a steel spoon, a wooden spoon, an immersion blender, molds (you can use yogurt pots or ice cream containers and then cut the soap when ready). Gloves, apron and protective glasses!Ingredienti: 1kg di olio di oliva (oppure di frittura, olio di semi vari vanno bene), 128g soda caustica, 300g acqua.
Ingredients: 1kg of olive oil (or frying oil, seed oil), 128 sodiuim hydroxide, 300g water.
Dopo avere protetto il piano di lavoro e indossato guanti, grembiule e occhiali si puo' iniziare con molta calma e tranquillità!
After protecting the work surface and put gloves, an apron and protection glasses one can start calmly!
Pesare 300gr di acqua in un contenitore in Pirex
Weigh 300gr of water into a Pirex container.
Pesare con molta precisione la soda caustica versandonela nel bicchiere di plastica usando un cucchiaio di acciaio.
Weigh very accuratly the sodiuim hydroxide into the plastic cup using a steel spoon.
Con il cucchiaio di acciaio versare molto piano e a poco a poco la soda caustica dal barattolo di plastica dentro all'acqua (NON METTETE MAI L'ACQUA NELLA SODA). Sentirete che la temperatura salirà molto in fretta percio' fate attenzione! Mescolate piano la soda dentro all'acqua. Lasciatela raffredare.
With the steel spoon pour the soda very slowly from the plastic cup into the water (NEVER PUT THE WATER IN THE SODIUM). You will feel the temperature rise fast so be carful! Mix the sodiuim hydroxide slowly into the water. Let it cool down.
Pesare l'olio nella pentola e farla scaldare a 45°C. (bastano pocchi minuti)
Weigh the oil in the pan and heat it to 45°C. (Only a few minutes are needed)
La temperatura della soda deve scendere a 45°C.
The temperature of the sodium hydroxide needs to drop to 45°C
Versare la soda dentro all'olio (MAI VICEVERSA!)
Pour the sodium hydroxide into the oil (NEVER VICEVERSA!)
Mescolare con un cucchiao di legno (da usare solo per il sapone)
Mix with a wooden spoon (to be used only for soap making)
Ora mescolare con il frullatore ad immersione finch'é non diventa cremoso.
Mix with the immersion blender until it becomes creamy.
Ora potete aggiungere fiori, olii essenziali, spezie... e mettere la "crema" nei stampini.
Now you can add flowers, essentiel oils, spices...and put the "cream" in molds.
Lasciare riposare per due mesi. (Tenetelo avolto con carta o stoffa ma facendolo respirare. Dopo 4 giorni potete toglierlo dallo stampo)
Let it rest for 2 months. (Keep it covered with paper or fabric letting it breath. After 4 days you can take it out of its mold)
Ecco il sapone dopo 2 mesi, é pronto all'uso!
Here is the soap ready for use!Nel caso il sapone non si rassoda, si puo' sciogliere un po' a bagnomaria, aggiungere un po' d'acqua e usarlo come sapone liquido.
In case the soap doesn't harden, you can melt it again in bain-marie and add a bit of water then it can be used as liquid soap.

Molto affascinante, anche se un po' lungo. Non vedo l'ora di provarlo! Peccato che ormai non sono più in tempo per i regali di Natale :(
